Let Alwyn tell you more about what working in a “People Business” actually looks like at Hellmann:
It’s so great that you are sharing your story with us, Alwyn. How long have you been with Hellmann now?
I have moved from Hellmann Dubai to Hellmann Canada 3 years ago. So I have been with Hellmann for a total of 12 years now
And during those 12 years, how has your career progressed so far?
It's an amazing journey, I started in Dubai as an Executive, was promoted to Senior Ops and then Team Leader. When we got awarded new business from a large strategic customer, I took up the role of Key Accounts for this company. So overall, I would say I had good growth and awesome support throughout.
That sounds fantastic! And what is your current position?
My position is in Airfreight Operations. I handle a part of Toronto air imports as well as Calgary and Vancouver air exports.
What excites you the most about your job?
I like complicated shipments which are only possible in an operations role. I like challenges, so when I accomplish those, I get a deep sense of satisfaction and completeness.
It’s great that you enjoy what you do! What made you become interested in logistics in the first place?
Logistics as a whole is a vast industry. We always keep learning new things every day as we work. Since Logistics is an integral part of the world economy, no business can sustain without Logistics support. It could be anything, from a small hair-pin to consumer products or machineries, fashion or medicine.
And you’re right in the middle of it- that must be quite interesting! What has been your greatest professional success so far?
Within just 6 months of joining Hellmann in Dubai, I was honored as the "Best Promising Employee of the Year". Continuing my journey, 3 years later, I proudly received the accolade of being named the "Best Employee of the Year".
Those are some impressive achievements, Alwyn! Could you tell us more about the working atmosphere at Hellmann?
The atmosphere is very light, everyone including colleagues and the management team are very friendly. I Must say, in Hellmann Canada, the whole management is really focused on their employees. Every employee is taken seriously and we are being heard here.
Why would you say that Hellmann is the right employer for you?
For me personally, I always had a job-security since Dubai. When most of the freight forwarders were laying off staffs, Hellmann was the only one who retained their staff, which was very kind. Rather than laying off, they moved the staff to different departments.
And in your opinion: What is a special feature of Hellmann?
Hellmann focuses on people so this makes Hellmann different from any other freight forwarder. Customers get a customized service in Hellmann which is not the same everywhere.
If you had to sum it up: Why do you enjoy working at Hellmann?
It's always a joy to work here. I am actually not stressed about work, we just finish our work and end our day peacefully.
