What do Polar Bears, Airfreight Dream Teams and Hellmann have in common? Julie will tell you:

JULIE COUSINEAU
Director of Airfreight
Toronto
Julie, you have been working at Hellmann since 2003. That’s quite impressive! What has your journey at Hellmann been like so far?
It’s been a wonderful learning experience and I have been lucky to continue to evolve within the organization.
What is your current position and what excites you the most about it?
I am the Director of Airfreight Canada. I have been in this position for 2 years. I love Airfreight – the fast paced environment, the ever-evolving industry. My interest was by accident – once I started working in Airfreight, I was completely enamoured with it.
What made you want to go into Airfreight in the first place?
The challenge – the Airfreight product is usually not a customer’s first choice. Therefore, when they choose the Airfreight product – there is usually a lot of competition. When you are able to win that business – it gives you great satisfaction. The logistics industry fascinates me because although it’s ever evolving, it has very much remained a people business.
That sounds like an interesting field to be in! Is there a project that you are particularly proud of?
There is one that we did a few years back that is very memorable. We moved 2 polar bear cubs from the Quebec Zoo to Australia. This was a very complicated move – and so important as we were moving live animals. The move was very complex, and we had to work closely with the veterinarians that accompanied the polar bears to their final home.
Wow, what an exciting experience! And beside this unique incident- what is working at Hellmann like?
It is like an extended family. I feel everyone does truly care about each other. The atmosphere is fast paced, exciting and challenging. It is also a very collaborative atmosphere where everyone can come together to discuss new ideas.
For such a nice and collaborative atmosphere you probably also need a great team, right?
I call my team “the Airfreight Dream Team”. I could not have asked for a better team. Everyone works extremely well together and we collaborate daily. We are looking at different solutions, different ideas – it’s a very collaborative group that can discuss together about many things.
Fantastic! And what about your team do you like the most?
The diversity. I have a team that is very diverse in various ways. Different backgrounds, different experience levels, different ages. It’s a wonderful mix.
What has been your favorite memory with your team so far?
The new TMS Rollout. Although it was a very stressful time for everyone – it was great to see the team work together, collaborate with each other and make it through successfully.
After having been with Hellmann for over 20 years now, what does working at Hellmann mean to you?
To find solutions for my customers and new potential customers. To work internationally with different cultures from all over the world. To be successful with the team to achieve our goals and to have customers say they enjoy working with Hellmann and have never experienced such a high level of customer service. It is to feel satisfied at the end of the day that the team did a great job.
Julie’s application tips:
It’s always great to have applicants include personal details about themselves. Their hobbies, special personality traits, why they feel that Hellmann is the right company for them.
