Maciej , it is great that you are open to sharing your story. Maybe you could start by telling us, what your current position is and what responsibilities you have?
I have been holding the position of Seafreight Operations Manager since January 1, 2016. In this role, I am responsible for all operations in the area of sea freight and land transport, covering both FCL and LCL. In more detail, this includes standard customer service for my clients, assigning new customers to freight forwarders in my team, monitoring results and KPIs, collaborating with the finance and controlling department, coordinating with other Hellmann departments/products in Poland and worldwide, managing customer relations, addressing irregularities and implementing corrective actions, and overseeing other activities related to operations and office management.
That sounds like a great variety of tasks and responsibilities. What fascinates you about your job and why did you choose the job?
Gdynia is my hometown - as far back as I can remember, I could see the harbor, shipyard, and container terminal, and I was fascinated by the vastness of the machines, vessels, and cranes. During high school, I dreamed of working in that industry and began studying at the Maritime University in Gdynia. After graduation, I embarked on my first job, then my second, and finally landed in my current position. Even after almost 17 years in the industry, I am still fascinated by the same things I admired as a child and enjoy watching container ships and the lively port activities.
Sounds like your childhood dream came true, that's amazing! How is your team made up?
My team is a blend of individuals with extensive experience and knowledge, with whom I've been working for over 10 years, along with younger members who bring fresh perspectives and enthusiasm. Each person is a bit different, with their own perspective and experience, but everyone believes in teamwork and can rely on each other. Thanks to this diversity, we can always match the customer profile to the appropriate person in the team. Of course, misunderstandings are possible, but they can be resolved, just like in any family, and there's never a challenge we can't overcome!
What I value the most about Hellmann as an employer is the atmosphere, people openness, stabilization and the self development opportunities.
And what is the best memory of you and your team?
That's a tough question, there are so many great moments! If I had to choose, it would be the 25th HWL Seafreight PL birthday party in 2023, held on a pirate ship sailing on Gdansk Bay. It was a fantastic celebration with wonderful people, everyone dressed in pirate attire, and we had a blast until the late hours of the night!
