Process Optimization in Customer Service: Sandra Shares Her Journey at Hellmann

Hello Sandra, thank you for taking the time for this short interview! Would you like to briefly introduce yourself and your role?
With pleasure! My name is Sandra Brandebura, and I’ve been working in Customer Service at HMS – that stands for “Hellmann Marine Solutions” – since 2016. This business unit specializes in global spare parts logistics and supply chain solutions for the maritime industry, serving shipping companies, shipyards, marine equipment suppliers, and spare parts vendors.
What I find particularly exciting is the challenge of ensuring that vessels receive their spare parts just in time so they can depart on schedule – because every hour in port costs real money.
Over the course of my career, I’ve increasingly focused on process optimization. Today, I actively support projects in this area and also manage smaller projects independently.
That sounds incredibly exciting! Did you always know you wanted to work in logistics?
Logistics was introduced to me back in school as a diverse and dynamic field – and that’s exactly what it has proven to be. No two days are alike, and there’s always something new. I’m constantly learning – whether it’s through new tools, processes, or day-to-day challenges.
To me, logistics means thinking logically, planning ahead, and using time and resources efficiently. Especially in an international environment like Hellmann’s, it’s essential to work in a structured and solution-oriented way – and that’s what makes my job not only exciting but also meaningful.
You’ve mentioned structure and processes several times now. Has that always been a focus for you?
My interest in processes really took off during the “Lean Manager” training at Hellmann. Since then, I’ve been actively involved in customer implementations, helped shape continuous improvement processes (CIP), and most recently participated in the “Move Yourself!” program.
That experience not only sparked a lot of positive change, but it was also a lot of fun – I gained valuable insights and met some fantastic new colleagues.
Would you say those experiences are your greatest professional achievements?
Absolutely! It’s a great feeling when projects you’ve supported over time prove successful in everyday operations. But what I’m most proud of is my personal development. Over the years, I’ve built up solid expertise that gives me more confidence and assurance in my work. This growth has enabled me to successfully lead many exciting projects.
To sum it up – what does working at Hellmann mean to you?
For me, working at Hellmann means having the opportunity to truly make a difference. The modern work models – like mobile working – and the wide range of development opportunities have already enabled me to take several career steps and continue to open up new perspectives.
What I find especially exciting is being actively involved in the digital transformation – whether through new tools or optimized processes.
But what really sets Hellmann apart for me are the people: passionate, diverse, and committed teams where I feel seen and valued – both professionally and personally. That complete package motivates me every single day.
Sandra’s tips for new colleagues
Stay authentic – your personality is what makes the difference! Take advantage of the many opportunities Hellmann’s career world has to offer. Be clear about what motivates you and why you want to be part of the team. And most importantly: ask questions – it shows interest and helps you find out whether Hellmann is the right fit for you.
